When clients experience adverse events in childhood such as abuse, neglect and attachment difficulties, this can lead to problems in adulthood. These difficulties may include intrusive memories, low mood, difficulty in managing feelings such as anxiety and anger and problems in interpersonal relationships. Ways of coping with these difficulties may include alcohol, drugs or self harming behaviours.
